A street photographer from Portugal
I walk.
I observe.
I wait for the light.
Most moments pass unnoticed.
Sometimes light reveals a story.
Those are the moments I try to keep.
I did not begin as a photographer. I began as someone who walked. Lisbon has a way of pulling people into its streets, and for years I walked without a camera, without a purpose, simply to see where the day would take me.
One morning, walking through Praça do Comércio, I noticed the way the light fell against a column. It was ordinary and extraordinary at the same time. From that day, I stopped walking without a camera.
I am not interested in events. I am not interested in portraits. What I look for is the quiet intersection of two things: urban light and a human presence.
A photograph starts long before the shutter. I often stand at the same corner for twenty or thirty minutes, waiting for the city to finish the picture.
The light in Lisbon is unlike anywhere else. Soft in the morning, sharp in the afternoon, golden at the end of the day.
Street photography, to me, is closer to fishing than to hunting. You choose your spot with care. You bring patience. You accept that most days you will return home with nothing.
Selected photographs are available as limited edition Fine Art prints, signed and numbered.
